safe home security

We recently moved into a house with an older security system called “safe house”… We do not use it nor is it armed. the security code is set to the manufacturer code.
For some unknown reason, the alarm went off today. I was able to put the code in and the alarm turned off, but what could have caused the alarm to go off without reason? it is not armed. We have never used it. i was thinking of somehow turning the power off to the system and was wondering if anyone knew how to do that. I do not want it to go off again without any apparent reason.

Might have been a power surge of some kind.

On ours, you can cut the power supply outside to the circuit breaker box or disconnect the telephone line to it. A couple things can cause it to go off for no apparent reason. On ours, when the back-up battery was getting low, it will set it off. Whenever we have brown outs or power surges, it sets itself off. And, I had a problem with rain shorting out one of the door contacts when the weatherstripping around that door got old and damaged which also gave us false alarms.
